Target group:
Anyone interested in seeing new social and affordable housing solutions in Mellunmäki and hearing about the larger suburban regeneration project involving this neighbourhood.

Event description:
The 2,5-hour walking tour includes the presentation of the suburban regeneration area of Mellunmäki and its social and affordable housing projects. The tour will be guided by professionals from various organizations. The starting and ending point of the tour will be the platform area of the Mellunmäki metro station, which is the northernmost metro station in the world. The tour includes a lot of walking, so please make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

The first stop is the social rental housing block Pyhätunturintie 2, which is owned by Heka, a City owned housing company. The location was awarded the "Best ARA square meters of 2022" award. Higher than minimum level quality and the affordable life cycle cost of housing, as well as the diversity of the housing mix, accessibility and the fact that the property is among the few architectural icons, were mentioned as grounds for winning the award.

We will visit a right-of-occupancy project that consists of four terraced houses (Viitankruununtie 34). Right-of-occupancy housing is a housing form between rental housing and owner-occupied housing. This block is owned by one of the City’s housing companies, HASO. Visitors will have an opportunity to walk through the shared courtyard and have a closer look on one of the apartments.

The tour will end at Toivo Group’s social rental housing block (Sinkilätie 2), where guided tours will go through the building and courtyard. Visitors will have limited access to different kind of apartments and community spaces. During the guided tour visitors will be given an presentation of the concept and dive deeper to the varying details of living and technical aspects as well.
